Standoff-Style Initiative
A downloadable tech
Use this initiative style for all kinds of physical kerfuffles; from outright fights to McGuffin-involving capture-the-flag competitions. Its main purpose is eliminating that “This other character did this thing that was so important for the story before my turn, now I still have to play my turn but nothing means anything to me anymore” feeling.
As a side-effect, this will add a Mexican Standoff sort of dramatic flavor to physical conflict, and a whole new tactical layer where the decision of taking your turn is more interesting and more intuitive. Hopefully, this will make turn order determination more fun and maybe even quicker while keeping players immersed in the game’s narrative through the whole thing.
Haven't playtested it yet. All feedback is welcome.

Hey, that’s going deep into the stand-off trope. Considering your interest in this question, I’ll put a link here to a gold worthy discussion about various initiative systems: https://forums.gauntlet-rpg.com/t/initiative-systems-deep-discussion/1789
Thanks! I recently found out about the Gauntlet community, looking forward to check this out.
